Bulgarian Deputy Ministers of Interior will meet with their Turkish counterparts on Wednesday to discuss the incident, caretaker Defence Minister Stoyanov told reporters.

Commenting on Monday night’s shooting incident at the Bulgarian-Turkish border near the southeastern town of Elhovo, in which a police officer died, President Rumen Radev said Tuesday this was an absolutely unprecedented case of shooting at a Bulgarian police officer from the territory of another country.

Commenting on the shooting incident on the Bulgaria Turkiye border that ended with a Bulgarian police officer shot dead, caretaker Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev told reporters on Tuesday morning that the perpetrators were illegal migrants. "We will show zero tolerance towards anyone, who threatens the lives or well-being of our officers at the borders," said Demerdzhiev.

A police officer has been shot dead at the border with Turkiye, the Interior Ministry said. The incident took place on Monday evening at around 8:35 pm, when an unidentified person shot at the a border police officer and a serviceman who were patrolling the border in the area of Golyam Dervent.
