Representatives of the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje, led by Bulgarian Ambassador in North Macedonia Angel Angelov, are in Ohrid and are in constant contact both with Tsar Boris III Bulgarian cultural club secretary Hristian Pendikov and all institutions in North Macedonia.

The Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia sent official information about what happened Thursday night, providing the initials of the three attackers.

Pendikov was verbally attacked at first in an Ohrid restaurant and was addressed with the words "There is no place here for traitors like you". He told temporary Bitola Bulgarian consulate administrator Ilian Krastev that he was beaten on his way out.

He is currently in the Special Hospital for Orthopaedics and Traumatology "St. Erasmus " in Ohrid. Examinations show a fractured jaw and possibly broken vertebrae. Ohrid police have questioned witnesses, and Pendikov himself.

"I have been dealing with this matter since yesterday and am in communication with all institutions. This morning I had a telephone call with the Bulgarian Foreign Minister. I would like to use this opportunity to strongly condemn this attack and to ask the institutions to take all measures to hold accountable the people who committed the physical attack on ethnic, cultural basis of citizens in the Republic of North Macedonia. As far as I am informed, the attackers have already been identified and efforts are being made to bring them to justice," Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said, quoted by 360 Degrees newspaper.

Osmani has said he will visit the beaten secretary of the Bulgarian cultural club in Ohrid later on Friday, adding that no one should be attacked for views and opinions, the newspaper reported.

The King Boris III club in Ohrid was opened in October 2022 and so far has been attacked several times, first with an agricultural tool, in November the illuminated sign of the club was broken with stones, and a few days later the premises were shot at with a firearm.

The Ivan Mihailov cultural club in Bitola was also targeted. Singer Lambe Alabakovski was given a suspended sentence for attempting to set fire to the building.
