A Bulgarian government plane, carrying the beaten Secretary of the King Boris III Club in Ohrid Hristian Pendikov, landed at Sofia Airport late Friday afternoon. Pendikov will be taken to the Military Medical Academy. Caretaker Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov in person met him at the airport.

Bulgarian MEP Andrey Kovatchev was the first to sound the alert about the assault of the Secretary last night. Kovatchev specified that the three attackers had been identified. The MEP tried to talk to the victim by phone but was unable to do so because Pendikov had a broken jaw and doctors were with him. Kovatchev had phoned North Macedonia's Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani.

Pendikov told Ilian Krastev, the temporary administrator of the Bulgarian Consulate General in Bitola, that he was verbally attacked in a restaurant in Ohrid and was beaten on his way out.

Pendikov reported the assault to the police immediately and, after an examination at the Ohrid General Hospital, he was referred to the St Erasmus Special Hospital for Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Ohrid. He was taken by ambulance to Ohrid Airport on Friday. The examinations showed a fractured jaw and probably broken vertebrae. Hospital doctors believe that a maxillofacial surgery is necessary.

Police in Ohrid have questioned witnesses to what happened, as well as Hristian himself.

Officials of the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje, including Ambassador Angel Angelov, arrived in Ohrid and are in constant touch with all institutions in the Republic of North Macedonia.

The Interior Ministry in Skopje released official information about the accident, naming the three assailants by their initials. The prosecutor's office said action was being taken to locate and arrest them. Law enforcers are also looking into the motives for the assault.
